We’ve somehow left the summer months behind and are rolling into September. Before you know it, the Larch trees will have shed their needles and the overnight snowfall will be left on the mountaintops signalling us to dig out our winter layers and prepare for the long, cold, snowy winter the farmers’ almanac predict it is going to be. However, there are a lot of fun things left to do in September, so don’t fret quite yet!
Probably, no… DEFINITELY, our favourite thing to do in September is attend the Canmore Festival of Arts and Creativity at artsPlace from September 28th– 30th. This three-day, community-wide event celebrates the Bow Valley’s creative spirit by means of workshops, performances, demonstrations, films, and hands-on activities. There is a plethora of things to see and do, and fun for all ages. We all know Canmore is widely celebrated for it’s art scene, and to us, this is the most exciting display of the Bow Valley’s local talent.
Perhaps the second best thing about the festival, other than the exciting displays of artistic merit, is that it is FREE ALL WEEKEND LONG. Seeing that shoulder season is almost upon us, and we are a tourism driven town, our wallets just let out a sigh of relief. All workshops, classes, performances are free to the public, and first come, first serve.
While every other day holds its own, we mo
st definitely look forward to Saturday the most. Why, you ask? Saturday’s schedule includes the Creative Combat 4.0 Fundraiser, which is so much more than you think! A wild party comprised of 12 artists completing works of art in 20 minutes with a local DJ spinning tracks to stroke the creative genius, this event is like no other. Creative Canmore locals include the wonderful Veronique Gray of Electric Grizzly Tattoo, Kerry Langlois, and numerous other amazing local talents. Already marking this date on your calendar? Better be quick and get yourself a ticket as limited quantities are available. Your ticket will cost you $50, with proceeds going toward artsPlace programming, and is the only event where you will require your wallet (especially if you would like to get yourself a beverage!).
We hope to see you out, one day or another, as this is a super fun and exciting event that showcases amazing local talent and celebrates Canmore’s rich and vibrant arts and creativity community.
If, for some reason, you’ve already made plans that weekend; artsPlace has fall/winter programs available so you can pick up a new skill or perfect an old one, there are numerous galleries in the Downtown core showcasing talented Canmore artists, and Pinetree Players always have something up their sleeve.
