We appreciate that those visiting Canmore and locals alike want to take advantage of the wonderful and beautiful offerings Canmore has, and therefore there are strategies and procedures being put in place to keep everyone safe.
With the Government of Alberta easing restrictions and entering stage 1 of the relaunch strategy as early as May 14, Downtown Canmore and the Town of Canmore are discussing ways to keep the community safe.
With the May long weekend approaching, it is likely that we will see an influx in those visiting Canmore, even with the continued guidance to avoid non-essential travel.
We want to manage pedestrian traffic on Main Street and maintain safe pedestrian traffic flows. Creating a pedestrian-only environment on Canmore’s Main Street is an option. We want to support downtown businesses in their re-opening and have heard from them that taking this step too early could create perceived barriers and be detrimental to the businesses that are choosing to open.
Please be aware, the town would need 10-14 days to coordinate everything required to set this up properly, including painting lines on the road, adjusting signage at surrounding intersections to accommodate new traffic flows, changing the timing of adjacent traffic signal lights, creating signage, and setting up barricades.
It is important to remember that we are all in this together, and we are doing our absolute best to provide a safe space for those visiting Canmore and locals alike.
Socially Distanced Dining
Communitea Cafe
While this local’s favourite took some time off, they are back at it with their delicious and healthy menu options but are operating on a dine-out only basis. You can call or order online for your pickup order, and take your meals to go to one of the local parks where you can enjoy the sunshine and enjoy your food while practicing safe social distancing.
Toniq Looking for a health and immune boost? Toniq is offering online ordering for curbside pickup at their downtown location. They have recently added snacks and meals to their menu, all great options for dining out, and boosting your overall health in the process!
Tapas
This quaint downtown restaurant has been voted Canmore’s most romantic restaurant, and recently came under new ownership. For some bits and bites of Spanish inspired cuisine, we recommend gathering some delicious takeout from this local dining spot.
Socially Distanced Shopping
Shoes t’Boot
After being locked in for so long, you’ll be surprised to find that spring has sprung! There is no better time to treat yourself with a new pair of shoes than now! Shop online or window shop and order yourself a fancy new pair of seasonal shoes to strut about the town.
Alberta’s Own A local fan favourite featuring wares from artists throughout Alberta, Alberta’s Own has been working hard to get its eCommerce store online so you can purchase their Albertan made goods and more. Plus, check out their Facebook page for updates on their mystery boxes!
Stonewaters
Your favourite home decor store has taken its brick and mortar store into the digital space and will also be offering social distancing shopping in-store. You can visit Stonewaters online, and shop via their virtual tour or shoppable products, and choose your items for pickup. When shopping in-store, please remember to be mindful of the things you touch!
