Do you remember the first time you first experienced a casual stroll down Main Street Canmore? The unique, quaint, and intimate feel of our small town set against the sheer magnitude of the 360 degree Rocky Mountain views – it’s like nothing else in the world. But, are you entirely sure you’ve explored all that downtown Canmore has to offer? This year, we challenge you to find out!
Every time we say there’s more to explore, we are encouraging you to find ALL the (not so) secret gems that our amazing community has to offer.
Did you know, just a mere two blocks North of Main Street you can dine on delicious vegan and Chinese meals, or enjoy an authentic woodfired pizza; get a fresh haircut, book a room with a view, find the perfect gift for that special kiddo in your life, buy a vintage record, or sign up for a memorable outdoor adventure… and more?!
That’s right, 10th Street is home to tons of incredible shops, restaurants, and services. So, let’s take this stroll together, and help you discover all that downtown Canmore has to offer.
Beginning on the North West corner of 10th Street you will find Rocky Mountain Flatbread – the award-winning family pizza and pasta restaurant, featuring handcrafted pizzas, pasta, salads, Canadian VQA wines & local craft beers.
Next stop, Switching Gear – providing the Bow Valley with a way to breathe new life into used outdoor clothing and equipment. Be sure to check them out, you never know what you may find.
Right next door Harvest Cafe is serving hearty, healthy meals and mouth-watering treats that make this locally owned and operated café a Bow Valley Gem.
And finally, on the North East corner of 10th is the longtime Canmore staple, Famous Chinese – specializing in Szechuan cuisine, they offer a wide variety of exotic dishes sure to leave a lasting impression.
If instead, we started our journey on the South West side of 10th Street, we’d first discover a complex that is home to a myriad of businesses: PEKA Property Management , Canmore Hot Yoga, and Float Canmore, as well as the always popular Snowy Owl Tours. They are the original sled dog touring company whose family pioneered the thrilling sport of sled dog tourism in the Bow Valley. So, once you’ve booked your next trill, pop your head in their Adventure Dog Outfitters store which features authentic Snowy Owl Sled Dog gear and souvenirs, plush husky puppies and sled dog cards.
Last, (but not least) on this block is Starlight Lighting. Established in 1996, Starlight Lighting is the premier lighting store in the Bow Valley. They specialize in providing a high level of customer service, from one small bulb in a custom home to a full commercial project; they are ready to support your lighting needs.
A bit further down 10th Street, we’ll come across JK Bakery – which, unlike most commercial bakeries, does not use any preservatives in any of their bread. Instead, JK’s breads are all made by hand right here in the Bow Valley with all the best ingredients. Stop by for homemade soups and sandwiches, and a sweet treat.
One more block over, visit Sugarpine. They have been serving the community for 22 years, their newly-renovated 5000-plus square foot store will further your creative spirit with 300 quilts and quilted wall hangings on display. Their friendly, knowledgeable staff is on hand to assist you with fabric selection and project advice.
Next up is the Devonian building, home to Lighthouse Hair, Glow Studio Esthetics, and local baby & kids’ boutique Mountain Littles who are all about family and community – a place to make meaningful connections and find products that fit your life.
Continuing East down 10th, we recommend a doubly-delicious stop at the Old School Bus Ice Cream and Kain Tayo’s patio seating area. Both are 100% must-try spots.
Then you’ll find amazing accommodations at Basecamp Resorts, incredible vintage treasures at Hello Vintage, a chance to change up your style; hair style at Vermelho Hair, decor style at North Nik, plus there’s a fantastic pub on this block called Tavern 1883.
Finally, we end up back at the South East Corner. This is where you’ll be able to visit Communitea where healthy, fresh food is made from as many local and organic ingredients as possible; they are best known for specializing in gluten-free and vegetarian/ vegan options. Right across the avenue is another great spot for delicious bites and beverages: Hy Five, as well as Marra’s Way Sushi – an unassuming little gem of a sushi restaurant where the chef creates tasty Japanese cuisine including specialities like their Three Sisters outside rolls.
Last but certainly not least on 10th Street, check out Paintbox Lodge – a fancy, not-so-fancy, Olympian owned, award-winning boutique hotel that is the perfect place to stay while you’re in town.
So, next time you’re exploring your new favourite shops and restaurants on Main Street, be sure to walk North on any of the adjoining avenues – towards 10th Street. Clearly, there really is SO much more to explore!
