Road closures on Main Street were initially intended to encourage social distancing back in 2020. Now, it has become an annual event during the booming months of summer tourism. From May 16th to October 14th, Main Street is closed once again to all vehicle traffic to allow Bow Valley locals and visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant and quaint town we call Canmore.
Main Street is full of jaw-dropping mountain views, one-of-a-kind retailers, lively music, award-winning restaurants & pubs; why not make a day out of it? Join us on Main Street for some of the best things to do in Canmore.
Enjoy a Mountain View Breakfast
Start your day off right on Main Street with a hot or cold cup of joe from one of Canmore’s oldest coffee joints, Good Earth Coffee House. Nan Eskenazi and Michael Going, owners of Good Earth, have been serving delicious coffee and fresh, healthy and wholesome food to their customers since 1991. From freshly made sandwiches, flatbreads, soups and salads to fresh-baked muffins, scones, cookies and brownies – they have got it all!
Things to Do: Rent a BIcycle
Canmore is home to many wheelie awesome sightseeing trails. So, why not travel in style by renting a bike from a premier bike shop, Rebound Cycle? Founded in the mid-’90s, Rebound offers e-bikes, trail bikes, kids, youth and adult kids – perfect for family fun in Canmore, whether you plan to travel on dirt, gravel, or paved roads or trails. (But please remember, be sure to double check the trail you desire to ride on is, in fact, bike-friendly.) Happy riding!
Peruse the Local Art Scene
It’s no secret that Canmore is a hub for arts and culture. With a full week in the fall dedicated to the local arts scene, the incredible nature scenery, plus all of the galleries located in downtown Canmore, it’s obvious why so many amazing artists call Canmore home. During your visit, be sure to set aside time to stop by one, if not all, of the incredible and awe-inspiring galleries in downtown Canmore to perhaps choose a new piece of art for your home so you can look back on your trip every day.
Shop at Your Leisure
After enjoying lunch at Good Earth, take a stroll down Main Street for some retail therapy. In contrast to most malls, Canmore’s Main Street shops and boutiques offer shoppers one-of-a-kind merchandise and stunning views of the Canadian Rockies. Whether you’re shopping for a piece of art for your living room from Jeff Walker Gallery, a gift for a special someone at Jacek Chocolate Couture, or a souvenir to take home from Venice Gifts, there are plenty of unique options.
Experience the Culinary Scene
What a blast! You must be hungry after the adventure you just had? There is no better way to refuel your body than having lunch in Canmore at PD3, an award-winning food truck, or as they like to call it, a “bustaurant”. Converted from an old English double-decker bus that serves as a kitchen and a sitting area for customers, PD3 serves up locally grown and sourced artisan-inspired cuisine paired with their brew-tactic crafted beer made right here in Canmore.
Indulge in a Massage
Next, we will spend time at the Wildflour Massage & Esthetics, where your mind, body, and soul will be pampered by receiving one of the best massages in Canmore by a skilled registered massage therapist. Whether you’re by yourself, with a significant other, or with family, there’s something for everyone – because nothing says relaxation more than a deep tissue massage, hot stone therapy, or a spa facial.
Book an Excursion
Of course, adventure and the great outdoors lies at the heart of everything we do here in Canmore, Alberta. While you are in town, stop in at the White Wolf Rafting centre just off of Tenth Street to book your favourite adventure excursion to date!
