Downtown Canmore Business Improvement Area (BIA)

($60,000 - $65,000 Full-Time per year plus Benefits)

The Executive Director is the driving force who implements and propels the ideas of the Downtown Canmore business community and Board of Directors into a reality. The Executive Director is responsible for implementation and development of the strategic direction of the board in alignment with the Downtown BIA Bylaw and Strategic Plan. They ensure proper not for profit board governance and financial management. They are strong communicators that look to build collaboration with members and stakeholders. They look for creative partnerships in the advancement of the business community and facilitate an environment where businesses within the downtown core can be resilient and support community vibrancy and sense of place.

The BIA Executive Director duties include:

  • Oversee day to day operations of the organization and its administrative responsibilities
  • Ensure proper not for profit board management and financial accountabilities
  • Manage the BIA web presence – website, social media platforms; 
  • Manage marketing and brand awareness of the BIA through various channels
  • Advocate for businesses by lobbying for them at various levels of government
  • Liaise and communicate with stakeholders and community groups like BOWDA, Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Canmore Kananaskis, CHLA, Town of Canmore, the Alberta BIA Alliance
  • Attend and facilitate all board and committee meetings, including the Annual General Meeting and stakeholder meetings
  • Regularly communicate with the BIA members (businesses) 
  • Research and successful apply for grants and additional funds in the advancement of Board goals and objectives

Executive Director Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five plus years’ experience in not-for-profit management and organizational leadership 
  • Strong background in financial management and reporting to a Board of Directors 
  • Digitally savvy with enthusiasm about its possibilities
  • Demonstrates compassion and empathy, especially in times of crisis
  • Experience in marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, human resource experience is desired 
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Canmore and Downtown Canmore is considered an asset 
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a highly organized fashion 
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships 
  • Be based in Canmore (Bow Valley) is non-negotiable
  • Leads and manages with a growth mindset, open to learning and adapting
